Although the cast has not yet been revealed, Disney has announced they are working on a film adaptation of “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.” According to The Hollywood Reporter, Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich (the producing team behind the 2019 live-action “Aladdin” reboot) will produce alongside Ryan Halprin, who will serve as executive producer.

“The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” tells the story of seven socially awkward children as they compete in a regional spelling, and the lessons of joy, humor, and heartache they learn along the way.

The original Broadway production opened in 2005, and played 21 previews and 1,136 regular performances.
